A famous king in the Old Testament had everything his heart desired including gold and silver, houses and land, horses and chariots and many servants to meet his every desire. King Solomon asked God for wisdom when he was crowned to rule over a nation. As time passed and he enjoyed all the incredible blessings God gave him, something shifted in his heart. Instead of being thankful and acknowledging God, who had blessed him more than any other king with wisdom and wealth, Solomon turned his heart away from God. Then he decided to marry unbelieving women with strange gods and worshipped their gods. What a tragedy! He forgot who had given him all the blessings of his kingdom and the gift of wisdom to be highly successful and honored among men. His pride cost him everything and the kingdom was divided. Wisdom is the chief thing to cry out to God for, but one must always honor the source of all wisdom, the Lord God Almighty, and worship Him only. Proverbs 22:4 says, True humility and fear of the Lord (devoted reverence) lead to riches, honor, and long life.
