Revive Your Spirit

Fitness gyms are a multi-million dollar industry. People want their bodies to be healthy and trim. But there is something much more important than physical fitness. It is personal spiritual revival. There are specialized group revivals, local church revivals, and personal revivals. Believers are created by God to be a spirit with a soul in a body. Jesus will revive our spirit and soul and make us healthy and prosperous. Some essential elements of personal spiritual revival are peace, prayerfulness, joy, and worship. Most importantly, keep God at the center of all aspects of your life. It takes disciplined spiritual habits to reap the benefits of personal revival. Our culture is infused with busyness, distractions, and entertainment. People are under constant pressure to get things done and work faster. Stress saps our energy and puts a strain on our relationships. But we can decide to slow down and enjoy consistent quiet time with the Lord that brings refreshing and renewal. The simple life of talking to neighbors on the porch while the kids play in the yard is vanishing. Choose to turn away from being overloaded and overwhelmed. Go down the road that leads to revival. Restful simplicity produces a restful spirit. When we are mentally exhausted due to overextending ourselves, peaceful prayer and worship become difficult. Begin each day by praising the Lord and spending quiet time in His presence. “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4 Allow the Holy Spirit to fill your spiritual cup to overflowing. The sweet presence of the Lord is a healing balm; the cares of the world fade away as He fills our hearts with joy. Get in the habit of reading scriptures and meditate on God’s love. Take time to write down things you are thankful for and offer thanksgiving to the Lord. Listen to worship music whenever you can and cut some of the news off. Worship music changes the atmosphere around us. Practice being in God’s holy presence. Your spirit is hungry for more of God. Personal revival stems from good spiritual habits. Set priorities for the day which means some other things must wait. Daily prayer and devotion time with the Lord give life to the spirit. Make plans to have a weekend alone to seek the Lord and stay in His presence. Ask for God’s wisdom and develop a deeper relationship with Him. Jesus Christ often went to a solitary place to pray and seek the Father’s will. Learn to release your burdens to the Lord. A heavy heart needs revival. Jesus will carry our heavy loads. “Come to Me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”  Matthew 11:28-30. Remember, parents, to train your children up in the Lord. Let them see you practicing spiritual revival and teach them valuable spiritual principles. Intentional worship, prayer, reading the Word, and spending time in God’s presence are necessary. Almighty God invites us into the Holy Place where we commune together. Then we will be like trees planted by the river that are blessed and always fruitful. Everything we do will prosper. Psalm 1:1-3 Jesus cuts off the dry, barren branches that have no fruit. And the branches that produce delicious fruit are pruned so they bear even more fruit. Be an overcomer. Learn to resist fear, doubt, and unbelief. Trust that God is with you in your times of need. Psalm 109:31 The disciples intentionally practiced the principles of spiritual revival through daily prayer and worship. Their faith was tested after Jesus rose from the dead. Think about what God did for Peter when he was in serious trouble. Peter was arrested and thrown in jail for preaching the Gospel. He was sleeping in jail, heavily guarded and bound in chains. The other disciples fervently prayed for God to spare his life. God sent an angel to tell Peter to get up! Those iron chains fell off, the prison door opened, and Peter walked past the guards and through the city gates that were locked at night. Acts 12 God rescued Peter from death through a series of powerful miracles! That sparked a revival in the early church, and many people were saved. We serve the same God today. He desires to do miracles, signs, and wonders. Sit at Jesus’ feet and let Him minister to you. Shake off the dust of the world and come up higher to that intimate, quiet place where God dwells. The Lord’s grace will revive your spirit.

Learn how to revive your spirit and walk in the spirit as you fulfill God’s purpose for your life. To revive means to give new life, to energize, restore, eliminate depression or discouragement, to recover from a state of neglect and become active and flourishing. Life! Health! Vigor!

Pray this prayer:    Father, please revive my spirit. I acknowledge that I need to draw closer to you. Help me practice resting in You and spending time in Your holy presence. Holy Spirit, renew a right heart in me and refresh my soul. Bring healing and restoration in my life. Help me keep You first in my life with my relationships, time, career, and money. You are my Lord and Savior, dear Jesus. Thank you for Your abundant blessings and Your goodness and mercy. I ask this in Jesus’ holy Name, Amen.

Jesus knows our weaknesses and understands every detail of our lives. Come and rest with the Savior and let Him carry your burdens. He will revive your spirit and make you whole again. Joy will fill your heart, and the dry places in your soul will be refreshed. Like a river of life Jesus satisfies the thirsty soul. Drink deeply of the waters of life. Make a commitment to rest one day a week and set aside your work. Keep the Lord first in your life and walk in His grace and unfailing love. Fill up your spiritual cup. God will bless you beyond what you can imagine.
