I want to encourage you with this truth: God is full of unfailing love and tender mercies; His heart’s desire is to bless His children. He will restore what the devil stole in relationships, property, and more. So don’t get discouraged, trust in the Lord. We can count on the Lord to fulfill His promises and comfort us. His favor surrounds us like a shield, and His blessings are for us today. Psalm 5:12 God’s servant David was very honest about the challenges he faced in his life. David had many great victories for himself and for Israel. But he suffered heart breaking losses as well. He had God’s anointing and a heart to serve the Almighty. In every trying situation and in peril, David cried out to the Lord for help. “I will keep on hoping for You to help me; I will praise you more and more.” Psalm 71:14 When he needed encouragement or wisdom, David sought the Lord sincerely. After he sinned with Bathsheba, their baby died. Yet David humbly worshiped the Lord. He was discouraged yet hopeful for restoration. The Lord gave them another child named Solomon. When King Saul was jealous of David’s anointing, he tried to kill him. But David became king of Israel and reigned with integrity. God delivered David from his enemies because He had a divine purpose for his life. Millions of people have been greatly influenced by the psalms David wrote and by his life experiences that are recorded in the Old Testament. David learned to confess his sins when he missed the mark and disobeyed God. He repented and trusted God to be compassionate and restore him. When we face trials and our faith is tested, we can find hope in the Lord. Remember that nothing is impossible for God. Be careful not to become like worldly people who only trust current philosophies and human reasoning. Some false teachings and philosophies have crept into the church today to deceive God’s people. The Apostle Paul wrote to the early church warning them not to stray from the truth of the Gospel and to walk in love.
The Spirit of truth gives us wise counsel. So many discouraged people are getting counseling in person and online these days. They put their trust in someone they don’t really know who has a degree. “They rejected My advice… that is why they must eat the bitter fruit of living their own way. But all who listen to Me will live in peace and safety, unafraid of harm.” Proverbs 1:30,33; 2:3 Always seek the Spirit of Wisdom who understands each of us intimately. Let Him restore your soul. He freely gives us wise counsel. Cry out for insight and wisdom. The Holy Spirit is our Advisor who knows our innermost being. In David’s time, they had anointed prophets that gave people messages from God. We must ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom and search the scriptures for truth. “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.” Luke 3:16 The book of Proverbs clearly declares that the Lord has all wisdom and pleads for His people to come into the Holy Place and seek Him. The Spirit of God knows exactly how to bring restoration and healing in our lives. Jesus said that the living water that He gives us is a perpetual spring giving us eternal life. John 4:13 He is a wellspring of hope and restoration and dwells within us. When discouragement comes, know that God is for you. Put your faith in His Word and covenant promises. David often praised the Lord and remembered His goodness even before his prayers were answered. He wrote in Psalm 32:6-7, “Therefore let all the godly pray to You while You may be found. Surely when great waters rise, they will not come near. You are my hiding place. You protect me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance.” The most difficult seasons in life are the very opportunities for us to draw closer to God. He will comfort us with His love. He knows every tear we have cried. One day we will fully understand the Father’s unfailing love for us. We must not allow trials to make us bitter. If we trust God to restore what was lost, we will become better people. The Lord wants to restore people so they can help someone else who is in the same situation. And believers will grow and mature spiritually and become effective witnesses for Christ. “A person’s words can be life giving water; words of true wisdom are as refreshing as a bubbling spring.” Proverbs 18:4 Jesus is our wellspring of life who refreshes our innermost being and gives strength to the weary. Troubles will come, but the Lord will use them for our good if we submit to Him.
