Purim - God Turns the Tables
We can learn significant lessons from the Old Testament and the Jewish people. God called them His chosen people. And Jerusalem is His beloved city. This month Jewish families read the book of Esther and celebrate Purim remembering how God miraculously intervened to save His people. By God’s divine providence Esther became the queen, and Mordecai was a royal servant. Both of them were Jewish. When Haman, an extremely powerful and wealthy assistant to the king, vowed to destroy the Jewish people, the battle began. Haman was the devil’s servant. You see, Mordecai refused to bow to the king because he served God alone. Wicked Haman plotted to kill Mordecai and built a gallows for him to be hanged on. However, God turned the tables on the enemy, and Haman and his sons were soundly defeated. Esther, Mordecai, and all the Jews fasted and prayed for God to intervene. One night the king was reminded of Mordecai’s good deed and decided to honor him with a special parade through the city. Then the king discovered that Haman was an evil villain, so he ordered him to be hung on the very gallows he had built for Mordecai. Haman’s 10 wicked sons were also killed. The king decreed to Esther all of Haman’s wealth, his entire estate! God quickly turned the tables on the enemy and protected His people. Purim is a time for divine reversals. It was a month which was turned for them from grief to joy and from mourning to a day of feasting and rejoicing… Esther 9:22 God will act on our behalf today and suddenly defeat the enemy. He is calling for divine reversals because He has heard the cries of the oppressed. He turns your sorrow into joy.
Like Esther and Mordecai, Christians are called to fast, pray, and believe for divine reversals. Too many people are trapped in deception and lies that wrap their minds and bodies in chains. God can break those chains and deliver His people. Are you facing a situation that seems hopeless today? Nothing is impossible for God. As Jesus said, Only believe! We worship the God of miracles. As Jesus entered the Temple courts one day, He threw over the tables of the cashiers selling their goods. He tipped over their chairs, the money was scattered on the floor, and the men fled. God’s house is a house of prayer, and Jesus set things in rightful order. My house is a house of prayer; you have turned it into a religious bazaar. Luke 19:45-46. Jesus continued God’s work by healing the lame and the blind. Many people came to Jesus to be set free from all kinds of disease and demons. We are in the season of Purim when God brings divine reversals. Esther, Mordecai, and the Jews fasted and prayed for Jehovah to turn the tables on the enemy. He judged the wicked and moved mightily on behalf of His people giving them immense joy. All praise be to God!
