David was not always an honored king of Israel. On the contrary, his life was in danger before he took the throne. Saul was so envious of David’s good reputation that he ordered his soldiers to hunt him down and take him out. This was a dangerous time for an anointed man with a unique, promising future. As David was running and hiding out in the wilderness, he had to take into account that he might not make it to the throne. But he had already experienced God’s miraculous deliverance in the fields as a shepherd boy. He knew firsthand that when God’s power was added to his situation, his enemies didn’t stand a chance. It was God plus 1 future king. David did what he had done before and relied on God to fight off the armed troops that were after him. God’s supernatural favor thwarted David’s enemies no matter how determined they were to kill him. David took the royal throne, reigned over Israel, and designed God’s Temple that his son, Solomon, built. God plus 1, and you’re the 1! Victory is for anyone who can see with eyes of faith past the natural circumstances and trust the Lord.
