In His mercy, God delivered a nation of slaves from Egypt and set them in a position of blessing. All the Israelites had to do was obey His Word and embrace His principles. They saw many miraculous things during their deliverance from bondage and worshiped the Lord. Yet the temptation to rely on themselves got the best of them. First, they made a calf and worshiped it, then they refused to enter the promised land flowing with milk and honey. How quickly they forgot God’s love and the power of His mighty hand against their enemies when He set them free. Twelve spies went into the land to report on the likelihood of their obtaining a victory over their enemies. What they saw shocked them – giant people and giant grapes. They brought back giant grapes and gave this report to all the people: surely, we will be defeated by these giants. Their unbelief and their own wisdom brought defeat. God told them to go and possess the pleasant land and occupy the houses and reap the bountiful harvests. Ten spies convinced them all to stay back. Two men were full of faith and urged the people to follow God’s command and go in for He would help them defeat the giants.
Our eyes, ears, and our own reasoning can deter us from the victory God has for us. Fear overcame the people, and they refused to obey. The odds were certainly against them. Who wants to fight giants? They forgot the power and strength of God, His miracles (He parted the Red Sea and destroyed Pharaoh’s army), and His unfailing love for them. The Lord fights our battles for us. Remember the times when God did miracles for you and expect Him to help you once more. There are giant grapes and giants, but the enemy’s scare tactics should not move us. If the Lord is with us, we win. The two men of faith entered the promised land, but all the others died in the wilderness. Without faith, we cannot receive all the promises of God. Just eat the giant grapes and go slay the giants. The land is yours to enjoy. Obtain all the blessings God has for you. His angels accompany you, His strength works in you, and His glorious miracles are displayed on your behalf. Believe. “It was simply because the Lord loves you …that’s why He rescued you with such amazing power …” Deut 7:8 No problem is beyond God’s power to solve. Trust Him and meditate on His Word all the way to victory.
