Counterattack, Part 2

Last month’s Counterattack devotion showed us how God is fighting our battles for us, and He never loses. Jesus Himself promised us that we are overcomers in this world! He gave us access to eternal life and God’s Kingdom. Not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love and grace. “No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ who loved us.” Romans:8:37 While the devil may try to bring strife and oppression in our lives, we don’t have to allow these deceitful schemes to defeat us. Even when we’ve lost something precious or failed in some way, God can restore all things to us. In fact, He is able turn situations around and bring us double blessings. Don’t accept defeat. Let the truth of Gd’s Word rule in your mind and heart. Ask the Lord to give you wisdom and revelation. Be ready with the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, to fight the fight of faith. Meditate on God’s covenant promises and become bold as a lion. We have a responsibility as Christians to walk in the victory Jesus gave us at the cross. He sent the Holy Spirit and the Word to equip the church for battle. Our counterattack against the father of lies, the devil, is our defense. The church has been given all it needs to be victorious on earth. “Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world…” Ephesians 6:10-12 So don’t leave the sword of the Spirit at your side; put your faith in God’s Word and declare it over your situation. Learn how to use your powerful spiritual sword. Maybe this is new to you. If so, study Ephesians chapter 6 and make a commitment to read the Bible every day. Fill your mind with the truth so that you are strong in God’s Word. The Apostle Paul instructed the church to use their spiritual armor. He prayed that God would give believers the Spirit of wisdom and revelation to know the hope they are called to. Then we will be able to expose those things that try to exalt themselves above the knowledge of Almighty God. Also, believers must use their shield to live by faith and not by their natural senses. When Jesus healed the sick and cast out demons, He spoke the Word with authority. He demonstrated the dynamic power of faith that can move mountains. Every powerful miracle that Jesus performed displayed His authority over the natural world and its laws. Then He gave authority to His disciples and sent them out to do the same miracles and preach the Good News. He told them to heal the sick. Luke 10:1-20 They came back full of joy and reported that even the demons obeyed them! After Jesus rose from the dead, the book of Acts records many miracles that were performed, in Jesus’ name, by believers. They launched a counterattack against the enemy. The church was strong in spite of the persecution they suffered. Today Jesus is the head of the church. We are well-equipped to be victorious because Jesus established a New Covenant for us. Follow in Jesus’ footsteps and walk with Him by the Spirit. He is the best Teacher and wise Counselor. Our weapons are mighty to pull down strongholds. God will never fail us. “God stands beside the needy, ready to save them from those who condemn them.” Psalm 109:31 The victory is ours through Christ, our Lord.
