Do you ever lose your confidence in God? Sometimes life can be overwhelming and troubles or demands on our time can cause us to lose our focus. That's what happened to a few good men who knew a real miracle working man first hand. It was a fine, clear day with blue skies and calm waters when Jesus and His closest friends decided to get in their boat and cross the lake.
All of a sudden a terrible, wind-ripping, sink-your-boat storm came out of nowhere. There was panic, screaming, and yelling. Someone went down and woke Jesus up to tell Him they were all going to die! Peace can turn into panic in a split second. But Jesus didn't get anxious or scared. It almost seemed like He was in control of everything. He went up to the top where the water was filling up the boat fast. His friends begged Him to do something immediately or they would all drown. Jesus said to the raging sea, "Quiet down!".
That's when everything changed for the good. A stormy sea with huge waves engulfing the tiny boat obeyed the command. The water became glassy and still; all was perfectly calm. Jesus' best friends looked around in amazement and felt safe again. More importantly, their eyes were opened once more to the supreme power available to the One they knew as the Son of God.
Jesus closest friends had let fear dominate their faith in Him. But through this terrible storm, they were learning not to lose their confidence in God even when their lives were in immediate danger. In the life threatening storm, Jesus' friends discovered that even the wind and sea must obey Him, and nothing at all is too difficult for God.
