A mind that entertains doubt in God’s goodness and His promises will likely be anxious and fearful as well. The cares of life, insecurities, and pressures of this world can change the way we see things if we’re not careful. The Word is truth and is always the final authority. But we see and experience things around us that distort our spiritual vision. Like a boat that’s sinking, the danger may be real. The crew is thrown into “urgency mode” and fight furiously to keep from going under. The wind, water, and waves are real, but the natural realm is completely subject to God’s power and authority. Spiritual power was displayed in many ways to Jesus’ disciples as He healed the sick, raised the dead, and took authority over demons. They witnessed supernatural miracles and saw people put their faith in the Son of God. If we fix our eyes on Jesus, not the storm, hope will flood our hearts. When the disciples’ boat was going under in a gale force storm, fear gripped their hearts. These experienced fishermen let fear overtake them. Suddenly Jesus appeared and everything changed. The screaming wind and the pounding waves were still. Jesus wasn’t going to let them die. But they were so busy in panic mode that they forgot to call on Him in faith. The Son of God displayed His mighty power once more as they witnessed His absolute authority over the wind and waves. Distress and fear are tools of the enemy that bring clouds of doubt and blur our spiritual vision. The disciples were relieved to arrive safely at their desired destination. Put your trust in Jesus and the same will happen for you no matter what the natural circumstances may be. Jesus’ strong presence will give you peace. He’s standing in your situation right now even if you can’t see Him. Clouds of doubt are banished as we put our faith in Jesus who is our constant Companion and is working on our behalf. “Faith is… the evidence of things not yet seen.” Hebrews 11:1 Keep standing in faith and watch Jesus work amazing miracles for you.
