Christmas - Christ was Born in Bethlehem

There are many wonderful traditions surrounding Christmas – special gatherings for  worship, delicious holiday dinners, grandma’s awesome cookies, and the company of family and dear friends. At Christmas we celebrate the birth of Christ. The nativity has a prominent place in our homes to remind us of the shepherds that followed a singular star and the three wise men that gave gifts to Jesus, the newborn baby. Mary and Joseph pondered these momentous events. They had traveled on a mandatory journey to Bethlehem for the census; therefore, Jesus was born in Bethlehem. The Prince of Peace, the Son of God, came to earth to reconcile man to God at the appointed time, in the appointed place. Bethlehem is very significant. Micah prophesied in the Old Testament that a ruler of Israel, the Messiah, would come from Bethlehem. Bethlehem sits on an enormous aquifer. It is a key source of fresh water for Jerusalem and is well known for having the best tasting water. Jesus calls those who are thirsty to come and drink of Living Water, and you will never be thirsty again. “Whoever believes in Me … rivers of living water will flow from within them.” (John 7:38) The Spirit gives us new life. When Jesus ministered to multitudes of people, He touched them and made them whole. He healed the sick and raised the dead to life. The Son of God came to set people free and offer them eternal life. This Christmas, as you celebrate Jesus’ birth, let His love fill you joy. Bethlehem means “the house of bread”. Jesus is the Bread of Life; if you invite Him into your heart, you will never be hungry again. (John 6:35) He will forgive your sins and give you new life! God will be with you always!
